CHINA
China began his dance career at Jaime Aroxa’s dance academy in 1994, only 16 years old. He started in Samba de Gafieira, going through several dance styles until he settled in zouk. Within ten years he developed a particular dancing manner and, after winning the trophy ‘best of the year’’ in the zouk category in Rio de Janeiro in 2004, China started teaching the dance in 2005 and continues. He has been a teacher and guest in dozens congress and workshops in Brazil and all over the world, and along with his best students he is still improving the methodology and techniques for SoulZouk, and keeps its community together on the website www.soulzouk.com

SOULZOUK
The SoulZouk concept was formed by the dancer’s perspective rather than the perception of the public. The way of dancing Zouk that China developed explored in a broad way the body’s proximity, the leading with diverses body parts (movement leading with the hands, elbows, arms, back, hips, legs and head) and the style musicality out of the common rhythm.

Named by many as a different Zouk style, to China himself it is just a methodology to dance: ‘The music is the same, the basics steps are the same, the spins are the same, the movements are the same. What changes is the way of doing, seeking more comfort by exploring the body’s kinetic energy and by understanding the biomechanics of dance.

Today, SoulZouk is a set of techniques associated to a methodology for Zouk dance, taught by China himself and teachers formed by him and Luciana Guinle. This practice explore the dancers contact, their perception and prioritizes the comfort and pleasure of dance.
